Transitional World
Artwork Description
This project is a story of a part of my life. A workplace trauma made me realise that my life was not going well. It was not the start of going downhill, but rather the moment I hit rock bottom. I have been falling for years, but I was too focused on my career to pick up on the signs. My girlfriend left me and friends forgot about me. My emotions ran dry. Complete burnout. Prompted by feedback from those around me and by the deterioration of my own mental and physical condition, I had to rethink and rebuild my life. I had to slow down. Is there a more diificult jorney than the one deep inside ourselves? Is there a more exciting pursuit than the search for happiness? Perhaps we only find out after death. Do we live in a transitional world? I seek answers to these questions through photography, choosing camera obscura as a tool. Its visual world is to me, surreal and dream-like. Its panoramic format also distorts space. Long-exposure shots make photograph empty – the way a burned-out person perceives the world — the boundary between reality and imagination becomes blurred. I took the photographs in environments that were foreign to me, because I wanted to step out of my world, which had kept me constrained and stressed. In the selection of images, one can see the drifting of a person who has lost their bearings between different psychological states, emotional desolation, and solitude. Out in nature, watching the trees, seeing the boats on the water before me, feeling the wind caress my face, I attuned myself to the flow of the world. My aim was not to photograph the physical world, but to have that energy reflected in the images.
